BodyPlaceProject is a platform for artistic, embodied and cultural experiences of place.

About

BodyPlaceProject creates performances and art experiences that bring audiences’ attention to sensory, historical, environmental and cultural qualities of a site or place. Recently, BodyPlaceProject has explored place in ever-broadening ways through curation of exhibitions and events, creation of video and photographic works, public art and facilitation of projects that offer audiences/participants experiences and reflections upon site, place and Country.

Initiated by dancer/curator Gretel Taylor, BodyPlaceProject has evolved into a collective of artists who share a deep interest in place experienced through the body. Key artists are: Gretel Taylor, Gülsen Özer, Laki Sideris and Tammy Wong Hulbert. Frequent collaborators include Djirri Djirri, Wurundjeri women’s dance group; and Murrundindi, senior elder/Ngurungaeta of the Wurundjeri people. We also collaborate with other artists, knowledge holders, communities and non-human beings of the places in which we work.

Major projects produced to date include recent exhibition ngurrak-al marram-u / body of the mountain, walking residency On Country/In Residence,  site-responsive performance program Dancing Place: Corhanwarrabul and exhibition Force of Nature. Our purpose is to facilitate profound experiences of place.

Walking together across Corhanwarrabul (Dandenong Ranges), a group of artists shared place-responsive practices and considered what it means to 'listen to Country' through their diverse perspectives.

We started to feel our bodies in a continuum with the body of the mountain.
